DIY Cinder Block Rocket Stove for under $8

DIY Cinder Block Rocket Stove for under $8

The DIY Cinder Block Rocket Stove is an incredibly simple and efficient way to cook using natural fuel such as leaves or sticks. The beauty of this design is it focuses all of the heat from the fire into one 4″ by 4″ square which is perfect for cooking. Compare this to a traditional camp fire which radiates the heat in all directions. Rocket stoves can also burn much hotter than traditional camp fires because of the constant air flow. As the hot air rises, fresh air is sucked in to replace it which allows the fuel to burn more rapidly.

BioLite Stove

BioLite Stove

On your next camping trip forget the petroleum gas and cook your meals and charge your electronics using nothing but collected twigs and the BioLite portable stove. The BioLite is a portable device that features a USB port allowing you to conveniently charge your phone and other electronics, and the best part – it converts heat from the fire into usable electricity, so there is no need to connect to an outlet. Not only is the Biolite great for camping, but it’s also great for emergencies as you can cook and keep electronics charged without the need for fuel or power lines.  You can purchase one from the link below.

Off The Grid Living – Rocket Stove Household Water Heater

Off The Grid Living – Rocket Stove Household Water Heater

If you don’t already have an indoor wood burning stove that heats your water, this is a great way to get unlimited ‘off the grid’ hot water.

This system is super efficient, heating the water with minimal fuel. It is also relatively straightforward to build.  I also think that with some modifications you could also cook on this as well.
All in all this would make an excellent permanent addition to a homestead. It could also be built and used in an urban setting as well.
